The Sugar Story: Gestational Diabetes What to Know

Gestational diabetes is common, yet it is often explained in ways that leave people feeling scared or blamed. This session offers clear, grounded guidance to help you understand what is happening in your body, what the diagnosis truly means, and what choices you may face as you plan for birth.

Dr. Cassandra Henderson will translate the science into plain language, walk through testing and monitoring, and explain how gestational diabetes can shape pregnancy and delivery decisions. You will leave with practical steps you can take right away, along with the confidence to ask stronger questions and make informed choices.

We will also focus on the postpartum chapter, which many families are not told enough about. Dr. Henderson will review typical follow up care, including recommended diabetes screening about 4 to 12 weeks after delivery, and why ongoing screening matters long after the baby arrives.
