Rooted in Compassion- Substance Use, Pregnancy, and Healing

Black women are too often blamed—rarely heard, and even more rarely helped—when substance use intersects with pregnancy.

This conversation isn’t just for birthing people. It’s for anyone who cares: doulas, nurses, OBs, mental health professionals, aunties, advocates.

Led by Dr. Yamicia Connor of Diosa Ara, this session creates a culturally grounded space to speak the truth about substance use during pregnancy and postpartum—without shame.

We’re holding space for learning, not judgment.

We’ll unpack the emotional, medical, and systemic layers of drug exposure—what’s misunderstood, what’s criminalized, and what’s rarely named out loud.

This is a conversation rooted in clarity, compassion, and radical support—for the full experience of Black motherhood.
